New Club Sounders Start Training

Shortly after having selected their first ever draft picks in St. Louis, the Seattle Sounders have already had a majority of their current squad on the field at Qwest Field, home of the football franchise Seattle Seahawks.
Speaking to the Seattle Times, coach Sigi Schmid said, “I’m tired of looking at this team on paper. I want to look at the team actually on the field and see how all the moving parts actually fit together.”
Joining the team at camp are a number of draft choices including first overall pick Steve Zakuani and second-rounder Evan Brown, while Jared Karkas and Michael Fucito won’t join practices until early February.
Also joining the team to help kickoff their preseason training are expansion draft choices keeper Kasey Keller, midfielder Sanna Nyassiand forward Sebastien Le Toux. However, former Arsenal and West Ham man Freddie Ljungberg will not join the team for another few months after successfully undergoing hip surgery at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Colorado.
The Sounders, who will begin their inaugural season against the New York Red Bulls on March 19 have still yet to finalize their roster with only 20 players officially designated.
