Spanish police have announced today that they have apprehended 11 individuals in connection with a suspected drug ring, after having seized 600 kg (1,320lbs) worth of cocaine inside a shipping container which were hidden along with machine parts for a wind farm.

One player was said to have connections with Atletico Madrid, while another individual was said to be a former manager of a French Ligue 1 side.  It is alleged that the individuals arrested managed to arrange the shipment, which originated from Argentina, while on a recruiting mission to the region.

According to statistics, 8,000 people were arrested in Spain alone for cocaine offences and Spainards are the EU’s leaders in cocain consumption.
